Five Points -- a Carpeteria exclusiveBy Gary George Three young men, all of them 28 years old and having known each other since the seventh grade, are co-owners of the new Carpeteria store on Bear Valley Road in Victorville. The store, which opened April 1, 2005, is owned by cousins Joe Glover and Jerald Varela and their friend Jimmie Cannon. Glover started working for a carpet store eight years ago and when an opportunity came up to get a store, the other two joined in.
Gary George for the Daily Press All three enjoy sports, particularly basketball and golf. "We're all golf fanatics," Glover said. Glover and Cannon are now High Desert residents, having moved here earlier this year. The three young men are happy to be with Carpeteria, which they point out has been in California since 1953 and is the largest flooring chain here with sixty stores. Carpeteria offers a wide selection of carpet, tile, hardwood floors, laminate flooring, vinyl flooring, countertops and bathroom remodeling in their sunny showroom. Glover said that laminated flooring is particularly hot right now. "It has the durability of a tile floor with the elegant look of a hardwood floor," he said. Carpeteria offers an exclusive Five Points: guaranteed best price, lifetime installation warrantee, accurate measurements, fast installation and a replacement guarantee. The carpet selection may surprise some with its abundant selection of shag carpets. "Shag is back," Varela said, and showed off some colorful samples that aren't your grandma's 70's shag carpet. The colors are beautiful and come in varying lengths, most of them shorter than the shags of the past. Varela adores the Carpeteria sales staff of Glover, Shane Young and Rusty Smith, all of whom have sold over a million dollars of carpet in a year. The young owners particularly seem to revere Smith, who they call the resident hippie. "Rusty has been a blessing for us. He has more years of flooring experience than we have life experience," Glover said. Varela wants the readers of this article to know that if they bring it in, an additional discount will be given to the bearer. "And of course, there's always a senior discount," he said. Carpeteria is located at 17260 Bear Valley Road near Ross. They can be reached at (760) 955-9551 or 1-800-FLOOR-ME. Carpeteria is open seven days a week for your convenience, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
