California Carpet your one-stop floor shopBy Gary George Mark and Michelle Sadduq are celebrating the opening of their new store, California Granite and Stone, in Victorville. The couple, married for 12 years, also own California Carpet in Victorville. California Carpet was opened in February of 1998 in what used to be the old Von's center on Hesperia Road and moved to Seventh Street in 2000.
Gary George for the Daily Press "There's a need in the High Desert for a one-stop floor shop for carpet, tile, hard wood flooring, laminate flooring, granite counter tops and kitchen cabinets," Mark Sadduq said. Sadduq's new location on Union Street will give him the room to allow customers to choose the granite slab that will adorn their home. "Our fabrication shop is in Adelanto and we will be moving it here. We have state of the art equipment which reflects in the finished product," he said. California Granite and Stone will save High Desert home owners the trip down below, allowing them to choose their granite slabs right here in town. "We don't subcontract out to some guy in his garage, we have a $60,000 bridge saw and an Italian edge machine that will shape and polish the granite. The customer ends up with a machine-quality edge finish," Sadduq said. In the 90's Sadduq was going to school, paying his bills with his first business, a carpet cleaning concern. He was studying to become an electronic engineer. "Some people's carpets were so bad I couldn't clean them. Then I started selling carpet," he said. Sadduq, 36, opened his first store in Upland in1994 and then opened a second location within a year in Montclair. "I came to a fork in the road. It was either get my degree and live a simple life or go into business and I chose business. I like the challenge," he said. Last year Sadduq bought a home in Apple Valley. He and Michelle have five children who range in age from 3 to 16. Both their stores offer no-interest financing, zero down and no payments for six months on approved credit. California Carpet and California Granite and Stone are offering a Home, Recreation and Lifestyle Show special on laminate flooring and tile-only $4.49 a square foot installed. "We are a Shaw flooring center. We deal with all major mills and have the latest designs and patterns. All the latest trends can be found in our stores," Sadduq said.
